How many times when you have been traveling have you seen signs, "Do not Feed the Dolphins", "Do not feed the Bears", "Do not Feed the Birds" there are reasons for this. Bears is obvious, once Bears are too close to Humans they tend to get demanding and might strike, then the ranger has to put them down and therefore you might cause the killing of a native animal for no real reason. Feeding Birds is also obvious. Did you know if you feed the birds the Car Wash Guys can clean the bird doo off the cars, http://www.carwashguys.com , but if you drive a convertible, you may not be laughing when we give you the bill to shampoo the seats http://www.detailguys.com . I have seen fat birds which could no longer fly, seagulls which exploded in flight from the wrong food causing indigestion, sucker fish far beyond their normal size, the left overs eaten by swimming rats the size of cats. And just yesterday I saw some sunbathing ground hogs that were literally obease sunning on the rocks for an hour of sun between storms in Maine. Feed again by tourists throwing picknick food to the Ground Hogs, not a good idea, and really not very fair. But we should pay attention to our actions, because feeding the wrong food could lead to disease that might jump species. For instance sleeping with farm animals caused SARS. Chronic Waste Disease in Deer could jump species into Cattle, hogs or if eaten could kill people. Many people hunt deer and eat it. Elk also can be a problem. Today we are discussing North American situation with Mad Cow Disease in Canada and now in US Dog Food. Not good. Pay attention, if we are to share the Earth then lets allow the genetics of each species to go it's own way, other wise we are causing future issues we do not need. Just a thought. As far as feeding the birds, well pigeons seem to find our food anyway and they love to drop on cars so we are guaranteed job security.
