Aviation news shows some cool inventions which can assist private and fractional jet owners. New Device may save lives and be a better way to break ice of airfoil surfaces. Check out this new system which is lighter weight and easier to use. Built by Cox and Company in NY for NASA, this would be perfect for the tiny business jets being built and make our job of waxing wings easier since there would be no alcohol needed to melt ice and would not strip the wax. Raytheon has already purchased this systme for it's new six passenger private jets http://www.coxandco.com --- http://www.sti.nasa.gov/tto/spinoff2002/ps_1.html ----- This is also a system which can be used I bet for mini UAVs and some military aircraft with specialized needs. It seems to be simplistic and easy to maintain and use. It has now been FAA Approved. ---------- http://www.sordial.com has developed a new foam called Sordal which has been trademarked Solrex, which can work with extreme temperature changes whcih could occur in multi-altitude flight or space/atmosphere combo flights for reuseable shuttle launchers, Cargo Ships, space craft or intercontinental ballistic endeavors. It goes from -435 to 600 F. Still not enough for shuttle tiles but great for other purposes and very light too, could be used in conjunction with ceramic coatings and it is non-toxic and does not burn. Could also be used in components of Fuel Cell car bodies and humidifier chambers, RVs, boat hulls and fire-resistant construction materials like the stages and sound walls of that night club in CT that burned up and killed everyone. ---------- Hanna one of the most famous names in Car Washing once built a truck mounted tunnel car wash, which is just about the coolest thing you ever saw. They are currently using the pictures of this 28 foot truck mounted unit which is a trailer that expands into a car wash. 240-480 volts, self contained and capable of washing 50 cars per hour. The walls fold out to 14 feet and a ramp on the way in and out bring the cars up to the washing area and a system of brushes clean the car. ---------- Honda and Continental partner and build a piston aircraft engine. We once sold a C-150 LR to the Honda Brothers in Southern CA in the 80's they used it to fly around the states and then took it back to Japan. This engine they built could power a 2-4 passenger light aircraft or a UAV becuase it would burn less fuel, weigh about 2/3 that of another comperable engine and provide higher out put and emit less pollution and could also retain enough extra power for a quiet muffler. This research can be discovered on page 34 of Flying Magazine last month. The prototype although we have not seen it yet is being tested right now at The Continental Engine Factory and test grounds in Mobile, AL. Check it out. This technology is good and Honda is really known for their reliability. Pretty little bugger for a 4-cyllander horizontally opposed aircraft motor. Hell the damn thing will even pass the EPA standards for off road equipment? This will not be the first time this has been tried, many EAA buffs and others have converted small Honda gasoline motors to do this. http://birmingham.bizjournals.com/birmingham/stories/2003/03/03/daily14.html ------- http://www.acmewelder.com/honda_aircraft_engine.htm ---- http://www.eaa.org/communications/eaanews/030304_tcm_honda.html ----- http://www.ultralightnews.com/airventure2001/flitebike.htm I guess this enters two different markets for us, http://www.carwashguys.com when washing these engines there will be little different except to allow proper cool time before putting water on the block since the heads are alluminum like their auto cousins, with steel cyllinder sleeves------ Porsche also had a motor for a C-172 as I recall back in the late 80's, early 90's. Here is a picture of one of the six cyllander jobs on a Mooney Executive or Mk. 21. Lenthens the nose a little and looks like a turbo prop. ---- http://www2.us.porsche.com/english/usa/company/services/customercenter/scopeofservices/flugmotor.htm --------- As a matter of fact there was an issue and lawsuit of borrowed parts from a Beechcraft model to make the prototype work and some issues with patent rights as I recall http://law-gopher.uark.edu/arklaw/libraryr/reserve/finals/watkins/civpro.s84.html ------------- More aviation innovation follows ------------- New testing has been conducted for Contaminated Take off of civil aircraft. Hopefully you will remember our report about cleaning of landing gear of British aircraft during the hieght of the mad cow scare. This was a real issue with hoof and mouth at the time. Because the US did not want any of this contamination coming to America, now the Canadians are worried about further possible problems with WHO and the US ushering in a new set of protections from aircraft flying from there to here. This maybe a possible market for future Jet Wash Guys http://www.jetwashguys.com . Hey you never know and we must stay up on this stuff and be ready if called to service, http://www.tc.gc.ca/tdc/publication/pdf/13300/13316e.pdf ------- Trico the famous windshield wiper blade company has been doing okay in this recession although other companies are impeeding on their good fortune names, Rain X now has a line of new wiper blades and is using car washes and Wal-Mart for distribution and I have seen racks at Circle K, Tosco, ACE Hardware. Also Pennzoil has a line that is available at Oil Change facilities. Also Eagle One is working with an oil company to offer these. Market share errosion may hurt them in the future. The new Trico Teflon Blades are hard to beat and the prices may come down for operators, since before they were nearly the only game in town. http://www.triconproducts.com --------- We have thought about the possibilities for years of selling wiper blades to our customers so they do not damage their windshields. http://www.detailguys.com
