With water rights fights sure to continue to loom over those areas with water issues we are seeing many areas flooding now. For instance there is flooding in many parts of MT, ID, CO, TX, OK, NE. The problem is that the run off is going down river and on it's way to lower elevations from the various continental divides into larger rivers and of course eventually to the ocean. There is so much water flowing in ID and Western MT that they are worried about bridges and roads and property near the rivers. When the river over floods it can flood areas where contaminents can get into the main river and pollute it. President Bush and others have suggested and discussed ways to store this water for later use. The State of Colorado and their Governors office have similar ideas and are putting bond issues to a vote. Meanwhile farmers in KS, CO, NE, OK, Northern Texas. Also of interest is the issue of Lake Powell filling up to over 60% after being only 17% and worries about severe drought plans to take affect which effect our car wash industry as well. This summer will be a big deal as these rains and snow melt have helped the grass grow and thus it will die and become fuel for fires during the thunder and lightening strikes. Lightening starts about 20,000 small fires annually in the US, it is significant. But people also start fires both dilibertly and stupidly. In Greeley CO they are saying that about 3.25 billion gallons of run off has already washed down river, which is good for those at lower elevations but it also means that without water retention that they lose that water for ever, water they need but cannot store in reservoirs, meanwhile the Ogalla underground acquifer the largest underground acquifer in North America need replensihing for those in NE, SD, KS, OK, and TX, it extends all the way into and just below Amarillo. How much is 3.25 Billion gallons? A lot, over 10,000 acre feet of water. If 40% of the water is used inside the homes then that water after used and treated would still flow down stream to be used again and again. So therefore if it is not used then it has been wasted as the flow moves down hill. Similar to a check in the mail, which is waiting to be spent. The drought is not over yet and in many parts of CO, MT, WY they are seeding the clouds, sometimes it does good, even if it onkly puts a cloud layer over head which prevents evaporation from the larger rivers, lakes and reservoirs. However the people who are northeast may get more severe weather because of it and these seeded clouds may add to the normal precipitation of those areas and cause flooding there. Particularly down stream as the soil is soaked and the mighty rivers such as the Mississippi head into the lower areas of Louisiana to the gulf as Hurricane season deliver tropical depressions and Hurricane inflows to the coast where the rising water line threatens civilization and contaminated water with significant rain inflows and high tides.
