Well the TAero 4000 is the latest fantasy aircraft in the pay in advance method todirve the R and D from the consumer side of things. http://www.aerospectives.com/default.html The aricraft has a 36 foot wing span which fold up and can be used as a car. We have been seeing so many new concepts using jet power to propel them. Since the aricraft was first invented people have tried to combine cars with aircraft. I remember as a kid watching two guys fall to their death in a Pinto whcih had a twin boom tail looked like a Cessna 337 Skymaster, push me pull you centerline thrust, the assembly came apart and the two drives fell about 1000 feet and were crushed instantly. I remember my dad test flying an aircraft for a gentleman with a less all encompassing concept and it flew fine, but that kit plane never got off the ground from a marketing standpoint. http://fordpinto.com/mitzar1.htm and there have been others, with high hopes. But is that not what innovation is all about, the down and dirty prototypes, pushing the envelope? Now a days everything is so sterile at NASA and with test projects that no one has a fire under their ass, many have simply whimped out. http://www.retrofuture.com/flyingcar.html and This one which actually led to a modern UAV design http://www.vtol.co.il/VTOL%20Page%202%20new.htm this might look familiar ehy? What goes around comes around and some of the oldest ideas are now feasible, this exists: http://www.fas.org/irp/program/collect/drgn.jpg . http://media.moller.com/news/hoverstills/ . Once you get them flying you will eventually have to get the bugs off; http://www.aircraftwashguys.com
