There has been talk about taking the F-18 or Apache Attack helicopters Heads Up Diplay or HUD and putting it on your car windshield. If you add infrared, as they are now doing at Gulfstream Business Jets and soon on the 757s and 777s you can drive in fog, rain, etc. without losing your visibility. Planes can land in zero/zero visibility, cars can drive by themselves or by drivers who are in the know, without over driving headlights. For those who illegally street race like Fast and Furious III, you couldhave the Tachometer, Nitrous System and speedometer on the windshield. It would improve safety in drag racing, air racing, Motorcyle racing, NASCAR, Formula One, etc. Here are some hobbiest talking about this technology. http://www.eio.com/public/prototyp/0037.html . Here is one of the first systems for cars: http://www.machv.com/headupdisboo.html . Here is what the aviation version looks like when put into a helment http://www.flightgear.dk/jhmcs.htm and at night on the canopy? http://people.howstuffworks.com/f-154.htm . Eventually one guy can put on a hat and connect to many units flying in a swarm and he will be controlling the swarm from afar and from his hat. This technology will be available soon for many types of transportation, trains, commercial trucks, buses, etc. Why? Safety. No more looking down to read the information on the dash boards, another reason you mount the tach on the dash and why I never looked down at the speedometer once you are traveling over 140 mph on the ground (motorcyle), because when you look back up? You may have run off the road. Trust me, your heart rate maxes out as the adrenaline flows like the water. Now in the Movies they often make mistakes, for instance; http://www.geocities.com/goose_topgun99/mistakes.html for Fast and Furious III they should get it right. This technology is coming fast and expect to see it at the SEMA show soon. Any questions email me; Lance@carwashguys.com
