Light snow pack causing a little scare these days. http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories/s1083.htm Although we do see some snow needed in CO this week. There is some talk about PHX, Tucson, LV and Southern CA having a pretty rough time of it as far as water is concerned, we are not taking the drought lightly as you have already seen. El Nino is a late season, but things are not as good as needed to fill up the Colorado River and the increased needs. If you look at the growth in PHX and Las Vegas with a minimum of 30 new housing tracts in PHX and at least 25 that I personally saw in LV, and compound that with farming in the Desert and San Diego’s North end growth and Eastern Sprawl, and looking at Corona, CA, Cochella Valley, you have to ask yourself how in hell there will be enough water when they are already in drought. Not to mention the growth in Riverside, San Bernadino and LA subs. I tell you, we all had better pay attention or the drought will save the housing bubble, with moratoriums on building. It appears that there is a global water problems, we need good ideas from grass roots efforts in each market and each area. We need to take this issue to the Neighborhoods now. Pay attention folks, otherwise Car Wash Guys will be the only one allowed to wash a car, after they shut down all the Car Washes in Level II droughts. Additionally there will be a stopping of all at home drive way washing from citizens, which can use as much as 140 gallons if the garden hose has no shut off nozzle. Well if there is going to be a drought, we will be the ones who come out on top. Thirsty? Good, people come first. And let’s look at Bonneville Power with decreased river water in the Columbia. Ouch, with Central WA, ID and Montana hurt bad, less flow to the Columbia, snake, etc. Let’s look at the growth in the West, 2-3% in many cases, that is incredible unfathomable growth, where is this water coming from? And also in Tampa, their desalination plant is not completed yet and the everglades are basically drained? What about the farmers next year? Looks like we might be attempting to make rain in the Summer Hurricane season there, are we sure we know what we are doing here? http://www.ti.org/Metrogrowth.html and http://www.msnbc.com/news/678619.asp?cp1=1 and http://www.sprawlaction.org/reports&releases/april3_westgrowthtops.txt .Think about it and check this out too: http://www.bizjournals.com/industries/energy/oil_gas/2003/02/03/seattle_newscolumn6.html?f=et160 Here is some interesting observations. I can tell you one thing the Car Wash Guys will be there washing for the growth and income flow. Ah hello good times, here we come. We are having a terrible time in the Northern Mid West states for lack of rain and snow this year. MT, WY have had very little weather, good for the washing biz, horrible for the lakes and water supply next summer. What other issues are mixed with water? ---------- - -- - - - -- - - Apparently the governor of AZ is getting ready to tackle reality square in the face, can PHX handle this now, will it kill the housing industry? Ouch, bad timing, but the drought is getting so bad now, many fear for the worse if something is not done quickly. http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2003/02/03/daily24.html?f=et73 Local builders are already looking at ways to cut costs; http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2003/02/03/daily25.html?f=et73 . All this happening right in the middle of a recovery while growth is still going strong saving AZ from further hard ship; http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2003/02/03/daily15.html?f=et73 and the Builders understand the game as they keep banking connections tight http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2003/02/03/daily15.html?f=et73 and try to control the mitigated real issues of the drought. We have seen these things before and we will see them again, when industries run up at redline against circumstances which are nearly impossible to stop. Bubbles, crisis, down markets, etc. There is opportunity in Chaos if you can hang on and play your cards right. Interesting dynamics in AZ. And a lot warmer than Oklahoma this week, wheewee. Of course Denver is a lot worse now. http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2003/02/03/daily9.html?f=et61 but at least they are getting some snow now.
