Summer of 2002 was the hotest since 1930's and the drought in the Midwest and down through NM and AZ including Southern Nevada. Summer of 2002 effected 45% of the country. It cost our economy 2.688 Trillion Dollars. Just fire fighting we lost 1.5 Billion. Also this maybe the worst decade since 1570's -1580's from what our ancestors tell us and the tree trunks show. Now we see this issue already popping up on Bush's Agenda calling for citiens to conserve, farmers to innovate with water saving means and several other very specific goals as part of a plan to get us through. Will this be enough? Well let us analyze the plan. Well in 2002 he and congress got serious remember? --- http://www.hersethforcongress.org/news/8_24_02.pdf --- and it helped our agriculture industry and even the SBA in many markets offered drought related loans up to 1.5 million for small businesses devistated. All good ideas and absoltuely necessary. In Las Vegas Area for instance, the middle fo a desert with 1.5 million people, who Bugsy himself never anticipated. 48% usage of water is residential. 65% of that water is used out side the home not for baths, showers, drinking or cleaning. Parks use 2.9% of the water. 50 golf courses in the area use 10% of the water which they are trying to move to reclaim watering as has worked in many other markets where golf courses are prevelent. The Colorado River is the lowest since 1906. Golf Courses being called non-essential are being attacked as wasters, yet some citizens will not save water themselves. A 28 Board Citien committee has targeted the golf courses in case of level two drought which is almost certain this summer. If a Golf Course goes 20% over allotment it could trigger a $177,000 fine. Second offence as high as $815K monthly. This is the drought emergency plan still in the works. Democrates too see this issue as Arizona Governor is working on a strict Dorught Plan with emergency provisions. In Montana, look out, things are not good. WY the same, Nebraska Westside bordering CO and WY very hostile territory for car washes, or any non-essential water usage. CO is in a world of hurt and may just squeek by, but may not with all the building going on there. As we have read reports and looked at items submitted by people like Mark James-Clark County Reclamation District, and Ken Albright and and Vince Alberta, even Larry Paulson with the NV Senior Coalition. Who is very influential, They have a good team in NV, but there is a lot of necessary work to do. We at the Wash Guys have without a doubt the best and most efficient car wash known to man. And even we are working on ways to better ourselves. -------- The trick here is to get people to take responsibility and for common sense and strategic planning to co-exist without fighting over the way in which it is done, but rather move quickly without delay. Something that few agencies can do, but FEMA is especially good at. The problem is we do not want to insight hysteria or let the crisis get so bad that FEMA has to step in, rather we need posted throughout every government, non-rpofit and private sector websites, "25 Ways to save water" and for businesses small and large to be able to take a direct deduction-credit for producing these flyers, digital references and handing them out and placing them in plain view on counters, invoice envelopes, given to kids for taking home and posted on web sites. CO and many other states have created huge awareness programs, but many fall a little short, it is a good effort, and better than none and surely should be commended, however the Private Sector Marketeers are the ones who can make this happen. Government, Businesses and Citiens working together in our newly found unity and strength we have found. If we can liberate an entire country, surely we can liberate improper water usage from our own minds. Pay attention, save water. Be smart about water, water is life. We can beat this together and we must. Pray for rain and show your committment today, save water.
