Lots of talk, controversy and rhetoric over the Dry Wash Products; Here are some thoughts: http://www.parthe.net/_cwg1203/00000052.htm ------------------------------ SBA funding cuts are of interest. Hispanic Business News online is pissed at the Bush Administration: http://www.hispanicbusiness.com/news/newsbyid.asp?fpa=0&id=14658 . It is interesting that the first to cry foul are the groups receiving more than their direct share of the programs, which may lead some to believe that the SBA is doing a PC injustice to the reality of the market place, hard to say, after all if someone is using government money to start a business that might hire more individuals is that not helping the economy and jobs and therefore what does it matter who is getting the loan after all some have said that Hispanic Entrepreneurs work harder than other ethnic segments? Although in the world of PC that too is not a plausible statement and one might get sued over making it in the public. ------------------------------- Wal-Mart to build car washes at Super centers http://www.carwash.com/news.asp?mode=4&N_ID=45702 . We reported in December of 2003 that the first Sam’s Club car wash was put up in AZ and that there will be 12 more, which are scheduled to be built as a test project. They will then perhaps put in some 1,000 units later on and we cannot even guess how many at the Wal-Marts, but these will mean big competition for Coin-ops with roll-overs or in-bay automatics because it will significantly cut into their volumes and change the industry forever as we are finding it is doing in the Oil Change Business as well. ------------------------ Well we see grocery strikes in CA have been going on for four months now with no end in sight and people getting tired of being harassed as thy go into the super market to do such things as in store banking and what have you, pathetic really and on the other side of the country in Atlanta the competition has been getting to WinnDixie as Publix is attacking many markets and the Atlanta stores are amongst some of the lower performing stores. Winn Dixie closes stores in Atlanta? http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2004/01/26/daily47.html . The grocery sector has been hurt by Mad Cow, Chicken virus and strikes and many large mutual funds have taken money out of those stocks waiting for a low point to go back in, after all people need to eat. ----------------------- Looks like we may have a problem with Las Vegas water supplies and it will help us but the citizens are hurting with water issues: http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sun/2003/dec/05/515973395.html . And over regulation is on it’s way too, listen to this in Las Vegas: Assembly Bill 484, from the Government Affairs Committee, would require the governmental entities in Clark and Washoe counties to adopt ordinances regarding licensure of mobile wash vendors and discharge of wastewater into sanitary sewers. Mobile vehicle wash vendor is defined as a person who washes vehicles from his or her vehicle or at another non-stationary facility. It excludes car washing for schools, religious, community organization or charitable purposes. http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sun/2003/mar/25/514851568.html . Water issues are a problem in North America and this next summer will be no different: http://vancouver.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=bc_bannoon20030822 . -------------------------- Kia Pick-up could change the dynamics of the Light Truck Market and could be an easy vehicle to wash too. Check it out, pictures of prototype here: http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_kia_evaluates_pickup/index.htm . Honda also has a light truck coming out which is said to be built here in the states, perhaps AL. ----------------------- Saw this rig in Dallas the other day, quite nice and great website, we believe there is virtually unlimited room for such noble and high class companies in the market, although we hope most are our own team: http://www.DetailGuys.com . Check out his Great Image, this is a great operator of a mobile detailer business in Dallas: http://www.detailscubed.com/photo_album.htm . ------------------------- Looks like Hawaii needs us as the move to cut water supplies again on the big island, fresh water is becoming a premium. Hawaii, big island is going for mandatory water cuts; http://www.watertechonline.com/news.asp?mode=4&N_ID=45798 . This will help those companies like our which are in fact good stewards of the water resources in their businesses, mostly out of necessity to save on the weight of our water tanks, but also because we obviously care. ------------------------ Auto Week Article Has good news for used car dealership customers of ours; “With 2004 the first year to see a big decline in off- lease units, used-car prices should start to improve, said Manheim Auctions chief economist Tom Webb. New-vehicle leases last year fell to less than half their 1999 peak and likely bottomed out at 1.8 million. Webb does not expect automakers to ramp up lease subvention again. "It's not so much a case of being burned twice as being burned three times, " he said. Off-rental units were down in the past three years because they're tied to declining air travel. Automakers partly made up for this by cycling them through fleets faster, but they were still the weakest segment last year, Webb said. Franchised dealers sold 16.2 million used vehicles last year, with certified used cars at 1.5 million, up 15 percent. The popularity of certified cars has led to dealers selling more used cars of the same brand that they sell new, said Webb. Many dealers are continuing to establish separate lots for older used cars.” We are glad to see this and have seen the devastation of the closed used car dealerships, one of our franchisees reported that two of their used car dealerships had stiffed them for two months worth of washing and quietly gone out of business between the weekly visits. Yes, great, exactly what we thought and it was not a small chunk of change either. --------------------------- Looks like Honda picks Canada to build North American Pick-up truck, we believe this is a bad mistake as Canada is a socialist country and they will be sorry at all the increased costs to build there. http://www.just-auto.com/news_detail.asp?art=43157 . Honda entering the pick-up truck market will definitely hurt sales and capture some significant market share in their first four years. But what ever people are driving we will be washing. --------------------------- Auto Dealerships are busy trying to improve image: http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/nada30_20040130.htm . This after the FTC got after them for sticking it to Hispanic and Black car buyers on the hidden financing costs. It seemed to be across the board and common practice. Some dealers saying that they had to due to the massive fall-out and bad loan rates amongst the ethnic groups and that they were just spreading the risk. The FTC did not buy that notion one bit. And is filing an action to fix the problem. Yet, some industry insiders say this will mean further scrutiny and harder screening of minorities and that many will now not be able to get a car, therefore cannot get a job, therefore greater crime and there for more problems and higher car theft in and around Washington DC where FTC people work and play. Thus higher insurance and then the FTC will no doubt go after more insurance companies as they chase in circles the cause and effect of free markets without ever having participated in one. Interesting. Although we have no comment and do not believe that the hidden costs are good, just because they are no longer hidden will not change anything the number of documents one signs to buy a car is now 21 total forms, How many more trees will be needed to cut down in the future is anyone’s guess? But when all the rain forests and trees are gone what on God’s brown Earth will the FTC do? After all by then all their crap will blend in? So we enlighten people to greater charges as 36 million Americans who have been victims of identity theft try to clear their tarnished credit reports and then make it tougher to make heads or tails of these reports then make the dealerships do more due diligence and thus it costs them more and more cars loans go South or thy just sell less cars to less people and more jobs are lost or need to be moved over seas to save on the economies of scale associated with the cost issues of over regulation in America? Hey you decide, vote against any politician who wants more regulations in the middle of a up swing in the economy. Less jobs, means more poor people who have no where to go, nothing to drive, no money to do it and isn’t it wonderful to have an FTC? Some actually do. -------------------------- Big Brother Black Box in your Car Wash Guys Truck? Well Could be? http://www.autocentral.com/content/productshowcase/product.asp?DocID=2BEA874D-6811-11D6-A789-00D0B7694F32 . Auto Rental companies are now using them and we ought to put them on government GSA cars to prevent government workers from using them for personal use. Really cannot trust them. There was one case where a government worker took a car on a 30,000-mile joy ride during their vacation traversing the country for 30 days and when they turned the car in it had 150,000 but the size of their jurisdiction was 25 square miles. Interesting they could do this in a period of 10 months? ------------------------- We have thought about adding more units in Mexico this year but are a little concerned about the data coming from there and the actual demographics. You think our Census numbers are BS and the data worthless? Not hardly, you want to see worthless data, look at Mexico’s data, all extrapolated numbers forgetting anyone who can run jump or swim is now in our country: http://www.library.uu.nl/wesp/populstat/Americas/mexicop.htm . ------------------------------- Auto Sales expected to increase in 2004, we agree; This is what we are seeing with our customers; “New vehicle sales will rise about 1 percent in the United States this year on the strength of a recovering economy, attractive new designs and a continuation of luring consumer incentives, the National Automobile Dealers Association predicted Saturday. NADA chief economist Paul Taylor, speaking at the organization's 87th annual convention, projected new car and light truck sales of 16.8 million in 2004, up from 16.6 million in 2003, which was the lowest level in five years. "The key to sales over 16.8 million will be the level of customer incentives, particularly on the most intriguing new products," Taylor said. "Interest rates will start to increase in late 2004, and that will offset some of the strength in consumer spending on new vehicles." NADA expects incentives to average about $3,000 a vehicle this year. "If manufacturers increase incentives, sales approaching 17 million units are clearly possible," Taylor said. On the used vehicle side, Taylor said he expects steady but modest gains in employment to increase sales. He said growing certified used car programs, which offer extended warranties on low-mileage models, will be a key to that expansion. Taylor said new car dealers selling parts on the Internet, an emerging source of revenue, increased to 42 percent last year from 24 percent two years ago.” More news from NADA at the show this week. Very exciting stuff and the industry is looking like it could do quite well this year, which is also good for manufacturing jobs in the country as some of OH’s auto plants announced lay offs last week. ------------------------------- Power Washing Business gets a boost in the media; http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/business/7841978.htm Good to see that someone in the industry is getting a little credit here? This is good for the Industry, those who do not know the Hinderlighter’s ought to check out their website: http://www.dcs1.com ------------------------------ Dry Wash saves the day, but makes collecting on a lawsuit nearly impossible in VA. http://www.readthehook.com/stories/2004/01/29/newsDryRushCarwashSuitGets.html . --------------- ----------- Old Aircraft in Desert? Convert it into a mobile home? http://www.newbritainherald.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=10890896&BRD=1641&PAG=461&dept_id=10110&rfi=6 . Sounds good to us, we believe we can wash a Jet or a Home. Doesn’t matter to us what you call it. http://www.homewashguys.com or http://www.JetWashGuys.com ------------------------- Runway Lights by Solar? Good idea? Best for Islands and places where it is tough to get electricity; http://www.solaraccess.com/news/story?storyid=5995 . We have certainly talked about ways to keep runway lights being as they are essential to safety off the grid or at least a good back up system. http://www.parthe.net/_cwg0803/00000072.htm ----------------------- My Doom does not attack Federal Computer Systems? What? http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/alerts/SA04-028A.html , so exactly who put this virus out anyway? Fishing expedition by Homeland Security? Could be? http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/56/35228.html . Speaking o government and Computer Internet issues, Looks like the Dutch police are showing up the FTC? Of course that is not hard? The FTC rarely goes after any real scams, they are more concerned with Grandstanding in the US Newspapers, TV and Media events. They practically alert the media when they use the restroom these days. Well at least we can thank the Dutch Police for getting some of the Nigerian Email scammers: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/35196.html . Do not email lists? Well folks they do not work. Obviously that was all show and no go, with my email box having some 800 junk mails per day. Speaking of government agencies; We cannot believe it, I just found out that the OOC was found by the GAO to not be in compliance with the CAA which to me means we need a DOJ investigation of the FBR issues to be reviewed by the EDGC of the OSC. Don’t you think? Or do you really care? Do you even know what all those letters mean and if not why do we need them?
