This year at the 2003 World Car Care Expo in Las Vegas beginning of May the Quick Lube Center Market Sector had an excellent Showing. Anything new worthy of comment? Well no not really. Last year about 100 or so Quick Lubes increased amognst the top Quick Lube Companies. Jiffy Lube set up new stores but actually closed a bunch and had a net loss of 2.6 percent in the total number of stores. About 146 new stores were built from new operators. At least that many or more closed. So the industry is in a state of horrible consideration. Now realize you start adding the number of companies which also change oil and Wal-Mart entering the market and you have some forceful and scary dynamics. I have to ask people why put in a quick lube as competition increases and prices are lowering at least this is what everyone is predicting in the late 2003 and 2004. This is where mobile has a definite advantage. What else is happening? We you have G-4 and G-5 additive requirements, as well as Auto Dealers like Auto Nation with oil change facilities on site as well as many Saturn, Dodge, GM, Ford Dealerships giving free oil changes. I vote for mobile oil change venue for less cost, high efficiency competitive model and because we are in that business. ------- Castrol had a booth discussing some of their new exploits and increases in market share awareness during the big mergers. ChevronTexaco admitting that they serve more markets world wide and in every jurisdiction than all the others combined. Shell showing their Rotella had an impressive following in the Heavy Equipment and Fleet Truck industries. Shell Quaker Pennzoil Valvoline also all there and as you know many are the same brand these days. But there was not a lot new there. The sales forces seemed uninterested in selling, did not expect any new business and basically were detered from jubilation with a slow turnout. But it was still worth talking to all the companies and listening to there programs and gimme deals fro the car wash industry to help them move their products to consumers.
