December 2003 Water is a huge issue: to the growth and economic development in this country. http://www.parthe.net/_cwg1003/00000014.htm . Many areas have grown well beyond their water supply and they keep growing. Tampa has put in it’s own Desalination plant, but suburbs, high end ones keep growing. In Spring Hill Suburb it is a huge issue. The Development in Hernando County doesn't run on fuel, it runs on water. The availability of water is the key to the development. http://www.hernandotoday.com/MGA0N8ZWOOD.html . In South Africa they are fighting over the water, killing each other sometimes. Emergency water supplies are being trucked to more than 3.5-million people across South Africa and more than 100 000 farm workers face losing their jobs. We have discussed this previously these are real issues: http://www.sundaytimes.co.za/2003/12/28/news/news03.asp . And if you think that the argument in Denver is bad over the building of reservoirs, then you only have to look at the other side of the globe to understand why these things are important: There is a call to engineer, design and to build water supply networks in Bangkok, Thailand. The Royal Irrigation Department needs to worry big time about building water storage and distribution systems for farmland to fix the past deny of the problem http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/28Dec2003_news09.html . Contaminated water is a huge issue in the US. There are fights in nearly every industry over water. Every agency, every company, every man, woman or child deals with these issues. Take the road salt used on the roads to keep the ice from forming which runs off into farmer’s fields or the Magnesium Chlorides and additives used in some states which contain; sodium ferrocyanide which releases cyanide ions into the ground water, it would take a lot to kill any person at those small volumes used on the roads with all the snow melt run off, but certainly enough to cause anguish in fish and make them un-eatable. The DOT is looking into the issue and we have to ask ourselves if it is better to have more deaths on the highway or a few extra-contaminated fish? Or is the solution to find other alternatives for such things? If it is and we know of other minerals and solutions what will they cause and how much will they cost. If they cost too much, will it come out of State’s Education Fund, City Revitalization, SmartRoad Funds, Less police, fewer parks. Less quality of life? More crime? It does not matter which area of our country you study or what industry all these are issues which affect us and they start with the water supplies and quality of that water. We are doing a piss poor job on the matter, but probably better than any other civilization to date. As Matt Ridley puts it in his book the “Origins of Virtue” mankind never was the Noble Savage or Stuart of the Earth once imagined, pp 211-225. The ecologists would want you to think that the native Indians some how cared about their environment, truth is this was never the case. Environmental ethics will be something we need to teach and respect but not believe that we have even done any better than we have done in the past here in the US or a few other very intelligent countries in the present period. We invented modern sewer treatment plants, filtration and water conservation methods and storage. If you look at the growth in the Chicago and Boston in the 1850’s raw sewage caused much havoc. Today all over the world we see all kinds of problems. For instance. In contaminated water flows in Azampura taps where about 30,000 residents of several localities in Azampura division in Malakpet constituency have been getting contaminated drinking water. But in a country with now more than 1.05 Billion people in it, these 30,000 are lucky have water at all http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/385219.cms and in another water scenario in Mumbai is alarming, that is the scenario of no water at all. How big water scarcity in Mumbai? The current water scenario in every Indian city including Mumbai is quite alarming and millions will die due to water issues if the population growth does not slow down and modern facilities are built. http://ww1.mid-day.com/news/city/2003/december/72439.htm And water scarcity ion the US is a step back also in many regions of NM, MT, AZ, CO, KS, NE, CA, NV and South TX. In UT there is a clash and a bidding war for shares of irrigation water in Many towns. Provo, included even though they had so much snow over the holidays that 7 snow boarders lost their lives to avalanches. Highland and American Fork are in a bidding war for water shares in the American Fork Irrigation Co., and Highland reportedly is winning. http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Dec/12272003/utah/123558.asp . Similarly the “Water Courts” in Bozeman MT are full every session, ID ranchers are worried in some parts, Helana, MT is surely going to be in level two drought in Spring, Billionaires buying up water rights in South TX and the list goes on and on. Here are some more thoughts as water effects the WashGuy Team as well; http://www.Ewashguy.com . I do not pretend to have all the answers certainly, but I can tell you what we are doing is not working very well. Too many lawyers, government agencies, lawsuits and rabble-rousers. Well what has this got to do with the Wash Guys? Well we can lead by example by doing a few useful things to prevent unfortunate situations in our own industry. For instance: http://www.carwashguys.com/vegasepa.shtml and http://www.carwashguys.com/stormdrainprot.shtml and http://www.carwashguys.com/cyoung.shtml and http://www.carwashguys.com/040602_1.shtml and http://www.carwashguys.com/reclaimdevise.shtml and http://www.truckwashguy.com/reclamation.shtml and http://www.truckwashguy.com/mobileunits.shtml and http://www.truckwashguy.com/environment.shtml . I just had a conversation with a gentleman in Atlanta over the Christmas Holidays who talked about the issues in their city with the sewer system in need of repair and updates and the growth issues associated as well as the water supply and possible level II droughts coming back as soon a Spring. Drive Washers would be stopped, car washes need to conserve and a whole list of other items must be mitigated and of course enforced. These issues are significant in many regions. With regards to the sewer issues, we have read about this in Atlanta also, and the gentleman is correct in being alarmed and concerned as a community minded individual who has also run a very successful business in the area. We believe all these combined issues will assist our team their because it will eliminate much competition. Although as it stands the number of competitors in that market explain the healthy market and strength of desire for such services. There is opportunity in Chaos. We never wish it on anyone, but when it exists we are there to solve problems for the customers. Droughts and water issues are serious enough to come to the point of Chaos. The Car Wash Associations are always wanting to get rid of the Lot Washers, mobile detailers and even home washers in their own driveways. Other divisions of our industry also use this Chaotic mess to serve their will. He is correct again in his thoughts on Drive way washing being banned in the future or at least some major restrictions being put in during level II drought in spring or summer. Normally we are finding that home-owners using pressure washers with shut off nozzles will still be allowed to wash. http://www.parthe.net/_cwg900/0000006d.htm . ------------------------------
